🚴 Biking Day

Fox Glacier to Harihari

We planned to do 35 miles today. We ended up doing 55. More to come on that later.

We started the day with a climb. In fact, 3 climbs. It was wet. It was cold. It was hard. But, we did it. 2 miles later, we were in Franz Josef. A bigger town set by another glacier. There we stopped at a cafe. I had poached eggs on toast…and Elise had a fried fish burger with fries. I clearly made a mistake. We then picked up tofu (which we hadn’t seen in a couple days) and some vegetables.

We then had an uneventful, but beautiful 20 miles to Whataroa. A surprisingly interesting place. It lies on the plate boundary and hosts a white heron reserve.

Anyway, the place we were planning on staying at looked…dodgy, and we were still full of energy, so we decided to cycle another 20 miles to Harihari. It was a pleasant ride with 840ft climb.

We arrived in Harihari and found a spot indoors to sleep (it was still raining). We found a little motel with rooms with a kitchen. Then, we went to the convenience store/watering hole (it is Friday), and then went back to make dinner. Tortillas with beans and TOFU!
