Rest day in Fox Glacier
Elise’s shin has been bothering her, so we’ve decided to have a rest day.
We slept in. Elise cleaned all our clothes and hung them up to dry.
I decided to go for a hike. There was a trail west of where we were staying, so I biked over. At the start, there was a small cafe. Clearly a spot for busses to let their people off, get a coffee, stretch their legs and buy a fridge magnet. There were two connected trails, a shorter loop around a lake, and a hike up the ridge to another lake.
When I arrived, I decided to run my way up the ridge. It was beautiful. Lush rain-forest and very few people. However, it was incredibly humid. So…I was a sweaty mess in my wool t-shirt. At the top was a small lake that had a small hydro-electric set-up that was nearly 100 years old. It was created for a gold dredge.
I then ran back down and completed the loop.
In the afternoon, we found a couple comfy chairs under a tree, and watched the mountains.
