Queenstown to Wanaka
This was a big day.
So much climbing. We biked to Arrowtown using the “countryside trail”. It was quite hilly. We had lunch in Arrowtown, and then, we had to cross the Crown Range. It was brutal.
First 1000ft elevation of gravel with a roughly 10% grade. Then a relatively flat bit with only a ~400ft of elevation. Then the hard part. We followed the only road to the summit as camper vans weaved around us. Pretty quickly they gave in and went up the mountain very slowly. After ~1500ft more of climbing we were at the top and decided that it was time for lunch.
It was all downhill after that. We coasted 20 miles down to Wanaka, ready for a rest. Lake Wanaka was beautiful. We set up our tent and walked along the water.

We made it to the top. What a huge climb. We started the day by the lake, just past the airport
Halfway up!
