Milford Sound
We got up super early to start a tour of the Milford Sound.
The little tour bus was delayed getting to us, because they had to tell everyone to bring more waterproofs and changes of clothes.
We then started off along the lake to Milford sound. About half an hour into the ride, we stopped, because there was a blockage up the road (a dozen fallen trees) that was going to close the road until 10am. This likely meant that we wouldn’t be able to do the full tour.
Luckily, we were able to get past the blockage at 9am. We reached Milford Sound and boarded a “sandfly” boat to take us to the end of the Milford Track. We then hiked a little section of it, getting totally soaked. I decided to give up and wear shorts, which was definitely the right decision. The previous day, I’d learned my water proof was in fact not, so this meant that I was totally soaked. A ton of fun and beautiful. Our guides were wonderful.
We then took a cruise of the Milford Sound. We were luckily on one of the smaller boats, but it was funny to see all these tour boats from different companies following exactly the same route. We couldn’t go into the bay due to heavy swells from the rain.
All the temporary rainfalls were out on display, and it was quite magical. We had been to a similar place in Norway, Flam, but there it was dry. This was different.
I slept on the bus ride home, which was wonderful.
