Ongarue to Piripiri
Today we biked the first half of the Timber Trail! This was an incredible ride. Single track the whole way. We passed over 40 people cycling the other way.
We only rode roughly 25 miles, but they were really hard miles. The single track and the climbing together made it a bit of a slog, but the conditions weren’t too bad, just a little mud in places. We saw the Ongarue spiral and so many suspension bridges.
We arrived at the campground around 2pm and decided not to push our luck, since the next campground was 20 miles away and more than 2000ft of climbing.
We relaxed, cleaned, played bananagrams (I won), and. had a lovely dinner.
The weather cooperated for most of the day, with showers just in the evening. It was extremely humid though, so nothing is really drying.
