Reefton to Murchison
Back on the road again!
It started off a wet day with a bit of a climb over the saddle. It was a bit wet, but luckily not too steep.
The other side of the summit looked completely different. We were in a valley of farmland. We stopped at a junction where there was a small trailer serving coffee and making cheese toasties. So, of course we each had a pineapple and onion cheese toasty. Doesn’t get more NZ than that.
We quickly were off the main road and onto gravel parallel to it. It was a bit up and down but pleasant enough. We then connected back onto a major road. We stopped for a sandwich at an intersection into a 4x4 road we were going to take. There were sandflies everywhere. I was wearing my windbreaker just to stop the flies from biting.
The 4x4 track led to another climb and another saddle. We went through quite a bit of water, but it was beautiful. There was a fern wall covered in reds and greens and another suspension bridge with quite the view.
We made it to Murchison without much more trouble. A long day but a fun day.
