🚴 Biking Day

Greymouth to Ikamatua

Shorter day today.

We left our campsite and went back into Greymouth. We stopped by the water breaks that turned Greymouth into a reliable harbour. We then went to a bike shop to look for bicycle rain jackets, but unfortunately didn’t find much we liked. There’s a New Zealand based rain gear manufacturer called “Ground Effect” that everyone raves about, but unfortunately, they only do online shipping, which doesn’t work great for a bike tour.

The route to Ikamatua was quiet but a tad boring. We went inland into farming country. It turned into a beautiful day, but the countryside wasn’t quite as majestic as some of our previous days.

The campsite was…not the best. It was a small field in the back of a restaurant. The kitchen was pretty dirty as were the showers. It is where a lot of miners stay who work at a newly opened gold mine that is boring more than a kilometer down. I had a nice chat with one of them working a night shift. Sounds like really hard work.
